iPhone App: Ancient Egyptian Book of the Dead

The British Museum has made a very beautiful iPhone app to accompany their Journey Through the Afterlife – Ancient Egyptian Book of the Dead exhibition.

It begins with an introductory screen which gives the option to watch a short video or dive straight into exploring the papyrus of Hunefer.

You start out your journey as the deceased and you must answer a number of questions from the Book of the Dead to get to the Field of Reeds.

Once you have made it to your destination the papyrus of Hunefer is unlocked and you can then scroll to the right through the complete papyrus.

Small balloons with eyes in them appear on certain areas and when clicked on provide more information about that particular feature of the papyrus.  Using the ‘pinch’ gesture enables you to zoom in close very a detailed view.

    Is this app available for Android so that the other 86% of the world can enjoy it rather than the very small elite who have an apple phone
